Dining Room
The dining room is a focal point area with family or friends and the lighting you choose will make a decorative statement, but you should also consider the activities that you might use the room for and have the ability to control the mood or ambience, whether its a an elegant crystal chandelier
mounted on a beautiful ceiling medallion, and dimmed down with a dimmer switch for fine dining, or a chandelier with a built in down light for playing board games.
The size of the chandelier should be in proper proportion to the size of the table, the size of the room and the style of the chandelier. As a general rule, a light airy glass and brass chandelier could be a little larger than a heavy full wrought iron chandelier we suggest that the diameter of the chandelier should be between a foot (30 cm) less to a minimum of about half the width of the table. The chandelier should be hung such that the bottom of the fixture is 30 - 36 inches (85 - 100 cm) above the table. This height varies with the style of fixture whether its one that looks better from the side (like a tiffany) or the bottom (like an Italian murano glass pendant).
Additional ideas for your dining room may include track lighting to accent your art work, recessed lights over the buffet for that task, and maybe a pair of wall sconces teamed up with candles on the table for even more ambience.
