Task Lighting
Task lighting (lighting that you need, to be able to do a task) may be the most overlooked, yet most important, type of lighting application in our homes and work places.
Good task lighting makes work easier on the eyes, prevents headaches, makes cooking more enjoyable, and allows the individual to better concentrate on the job at hand with the added safety of a good light. Task lights focus light in a particular direction or area, without casting any glare and minimize shadows on work.
Task lighting should always be used injunction with proper ambient light, having a bright desk lamp in a dark office will only add to your eye strain every time you look up from your desk. Task lighting should be at least double normal ambient light. The light level in a living room or dining room might be anywhere between 10 to 20 FC, and by the chair in the living room where you read beside you might have it up to 50 FC, but in the work area of a kitchen, or in a home office you may want it up to 100 FC in brightness.
