Cable / Rail Lighting Systems
Cable and rail lighting systems are similar to track lighting, in that you get a selection of movable directional heads and mini-pendants to chose from, what you don't get is a track. Like track lighting the majority of cable or rail lighting systems use halogen bulbs.
In a cable lighting system what you get are two parallel cables that you stretch across your room, and you attach your heads or pendants between these cables. Rail lighting systems could be either a duo-rail, or a mono-rail lighting system. The duo-rail lighting system is similar to the cable lighting system in that you attach your heads or mini-pendants between two conductors running suspended across your ceiling, but in this case your two conductors are rails and not cables. In a mono-rail lighting system your heads or mini-pendants are attached to a single rail running suspended across your ceiling. Some rail lighting systems have corner attachments while others can be bent for a custom layout to suit your application. Depending on the application, and the selection of heads and/or mini-pendants you can achieve accent, task, and/or decorative and ambient lighting effects. Although cable or rail lighting systems can be used in any room they're found most often in kitchens and home offices.
